Subaru owners are independent people who have confidence and control to take on the world and have fun along the way. They are concerned about safety, the environment, dependability and reliability, but still want a vehicle that has attractive styling and go-anywhere versatility.

Subaru was named the ONLY automaker with IIHS Top Safety Picks for All Models - TWO YEARS IN A ROW (2010 and 2011)! People think of safety as the ability to survive an accident. But, the best way to survive an accident is to avoid having one in the first place. Subarus are equipped with a broad range of safety features and systems to protect you. These innovations not only help the driver avoid a collision with the use of Active Safety features, they also help occupants survive one through the use of Passive Safety features. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru and Subaru of Keene the preferred destination.

All-wheel drive isn't unique, but Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is. Notice how the left and right sides of the drive train are in balance - like a butterfly or an airplane. This balance is unique to Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel drive and ensures stability and its efficiency at transmitting power ensures greater grip and quick response to slippage. Providing more than just safety on slick roads, it delivers intensified performance on any road.

Cut through the "hype" and understand what makes Subaru's Symmetrical All-wheel drive superior.

4-channel, 4-sensor Antilock Disc Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) - Working in conjunction with the 4-channel, 4-sensor ABS, EBD maximizes stopping power by optimally apportioning power front to rear under heavy braking. So you're better equipped to stop when you need to stop. Standard on all Subarus.

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) - Studies have shown that DRLs have helped reduce fatal and nonfatal collisions between oncoming vehicles by about 5 percent and fatal collisions between vehicles traveling in the opposite direction by about 23 percent. Most insurance companies offer discounts on vehicles with DRL. Standard on all Subarus.

Boxer engine
Notice how the pistons in a Subaru Boxer Engine move horizontally (like boxers punching) vs. up and down in most other engines. This unique design gives you the advantage of a lower center of gravity, better balance, greater visibility over the hood and improved performance and safety. The boxer engine is unique to Subaru and certain Porsche models.
4-wheel Independent Suspension
The Subaru 4-wheel independent suspension makes sure you're ready for any driving condition. Its low-friction design and specific spring and shock absorber tuning help keep the four wheels in contact with any road surface, paved or unimproved, making the most efficient use of All-Wheel Drive. Because each wheel functions independently, unexpected dips and bumps are no problem. The suspension easily absorbs road irregularities, so each tire stays right where it belongs - on the road.
Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)
Standard on all 2010 models, this stability system helps keep you on your intended path by measuring variables such as steering input, braking, and vehicle angle. Sensing any slide that causes the vehicle to deviate from your intended course, VDC applies individual brakes and / or reduces engine power to help counteract the slide and help keep you safely in control. How cool is that!
Remember, avoiding an accident is better than surviving one.

Accidents happen, even to the best of drivers. A high percentage of drivers may find themselves involved in some form of automobile accident in their lifetime, which is why Subaru offers some of the most innovative passive safety features to help maximize protection and minimize injury.

spaceRing-Shaped Reinforcement Body Structure [STANDARD] - A Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Body Structure helps protect the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. Comprised of higher-strength steel, the Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame, dual side-impact door beams (which help prevent intrusions into the vehicle), and front and rear crumple zones (which help redistribute impact energy away from the driver and passengers) combine to offer an exceptionally safe environment.

Height-adjustible 3-point Front Seat Belts with Pretensioners and Force Limiters [STANDARD] - A safer seat belt makes for a safer car. That's why Subaru vehicles come standard with height-adjustable front seat belts that feature pretensioners and load limiters, which respectively tighten the belts on impact and release the belts slightly to help reduce stress on the torso.

Energy-absorbing Collapsible Steering Column [STANDARD]
In the event of an accident, the steering column is designed to absorb energy and minimize force impact by collapsing toward the front of the car. This helps to reduce chance of body injury to passengers.

Safety Brake Pedal System
The pedal assembly is designed to yield in a moderate-to-severe frontal impact, helping to reduce injury to the driver's lower limbs.

Height-adjustable Active Front-seat Head Restraints - In the event of a rear-end collision, the active front-seat head restraints provide another layer of protection. They automatically move forward to cradle your head to help minimize the possibility of whiplash.

spaceSubaru Boxer Engine Placement [STANDARD] - Designed with breakaway sheer bolts on the engine mounts, the low placement of the Boxer engine inside a Subaru helps minimize engine intrusion into the passenger cabin.
spaceSeat-mounted Front Side-impact Air Bags (SRS)+ Mounted on the front seats, they provide protection regardless of your ideal seat position. Designed to protect both your head and torso, they helped the Forester achieve the highest possible rating in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests.

Subaru SmartWay? Vehicles

Subaru offers the most fuel efficient All-Wheel Drive vehicle lineup in America. Subaru also offers Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) certified Legacy, Outback, and Forester models which are available for sale anywhere in the U.S. Subaru PZEV vehicles meet California's Super-Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle exhaust emission standard.
  • Subaru PZEV vehicles have 90% cleaner emissions than the average new vehicle.
  • Gasoline vehicles meeting PZEV emissions standards sometimes have even lower emissions than hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles.
  • Subaru PZEV vehicles achieve such tight pollution controls, and the burning of fuel is so complete that in very smoggy urban areas, exhaust out of the tailpipe can actually be cleaner than the air outside.
  • According to the EPA, Outback, Forester, and Legacy are among the cleanest and most fuel-efficient vehicles available in the U.S. based on air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and overall fuel economy.
  • Outback, Forester, and Legacy are honored in the EPA's Green Vehicle Guide.

The Subaru Clean Plant

Consider this: When you carry out your trash at home on the next collection day, you'll be sending more trash to landfills than the entire Subaru manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Indiana (SIA). The Subaru plant was the first auto assembly plant to achieve zero landfill status - nothing from its manufacturing efforts goes into a landfill. It's all reused and recycled.
