Environmentally Friendly Subaru Vehicles
 | EPA Emission StandardsAll Subaru vehicles meet the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 2 Bin 5 standard, which measures the environmental impact of specific vehicles and the manufactures fleet of vehicles. The midsize Subaru Legacy with the naturally aspirated (non-turbo) 2.5-liter engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT) meets the EPA's Tier 2 Bin 4 standard. This commitment to the environment made the Legacy an EPA SmartWay national certified vehicle.

SmartWay Certification SmartWay certification evaluates U.S. vehicles based on air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and overall fuel economy. The 2011 PZEV-certified Subaru Legacy with the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT) meets these requirements.
 | California Air Resources Board (CARB)The California Air Resources Board standards for vehicle emissions are often tougher than those set by the EPA. All Subaru vehicles meet the CARB LEV II standard and are 50-state certified. The naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine Subaru Forester, Legacy and Outback meet the strict Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) standards. The 3.6-liter engine Legacy and Outback meet the ULEV2 standard.
Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV)PZEV certified Subaru vehicles come equipped with advanced gasoline engines that produce ultra-clean emissions with zero evaporative emissions. CARB requires zero fuel evaporative emissions in order to qualify for PZEV. However, PZEV vehicles are sold in all 50-states with the same strict requirements. All Subaru vehicles with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine meet the stringent Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle exhaust emission standard (SULEV). Subaru's environmental commitment to meeting PZEV standards is what makes a Subaru a Subaru.

 | Miles Per Gallon (MPG) Subaru's all-wheel drive system not only gives you stable handling on the road, but also boasts excellent fuel economy. The Subaru vehicle lineup is rated as the most fuel effecient all-wheel drive vehicles in America, proving the Subaru commitment to the environment. |
Clean Gasoline ExhaustVehicles emit carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are contribute to air pollution. Subaru's Low Emission vehicles significantly reduce emissions, which demonstrate our commitment to reducing air pollution and the environment.
