What makes the Special Edition so special?

The definitive leader in performance is upgraded with the introduction of the Impreza WRX STI Special Edition. This new model is uniquely focused on the driving enthusiast willing to trade a few amenities for significant improvements to the already extraordinary performance of the STI. The suspension is adopted from the Japanese domestic market's WRX STI spec C model, which adds a 1-millimeter thicker rear stabilizer bar, stiffer rear subframe bushings plus upgraded springs. The front springs are 16-percent stiffer, while the rear springs have been stiffened by 29-percent.

Compared to the standard WRX STI, the WRX STI Special Edition features halogen rather than HID headlights; a single-disc CD Player / 4-speaker audio system instead of the 6-CD / 10-speaker system; manual air conditioning in place of automatic climate control, and exterior mirrors without integrated turn signals. All other aspects of the WRX STI Special Edition remain unchanged compared to the standard model, most notably the 305-horsepower turbocharged and intercooled Boxer engine, 6-speed manual transmission, and a high level of driver-selectable powertrain and dynamic handling-control systems.

Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana has dominated rallying in the USA since switching his focus away from Freestyle Motocross. He has been on the podium in 17 of his last 22 rallies, with 8 wins, including a Gold and a Bronze Medal at the last two X Games Rally events. Pastrana is the 2006 and 2007 Rally America National Champion. In 2006, at only 23 years-old, he became the youngest ever American Rally Champion, then defended his crown in 2007.

Pastrana has made the switch to rallying after becoming a legend on two wheels. He is Freestyle Motocross? brightest star and is world famous for his death defying stunts on his motorcycle. He has won the gold in Freestyle MotoX a record six times at the X Games, and landed the first ever double backflip in competition.

Subaru Rally Team USA is also headed for the World Rally Championship with Pastrana. In 2007 Subaru Rally entered Pastrana in three rounds of the Production World Rally Championship (P-WRC at the wheel of a Group N Subaru Impreza WRX STI). Pastrana finished fifth in Mexico, 10th in Argentina and 11th at Wales Rally Great Britain. The program will continue in 2008 with three select P-WRC rounds.
